George Wier writes with wit, verve, and a gut-bucket knowledge of Texas and those who people its quirky underside. This book does not disappoint.

I don't know about you, but I *dislike* reviews that tell you what happens in the book. Why buy the book if the reviewer shares lots of the magic?

I'm just going to tell you the books in this four-pack were fast-paced, they held my interest, and I had trouble going to sleep because I wanted to stay up!

You'll not regret buying this series. Not for a moment. You will regret not buying it sooner, as well as all the Bill Travis books.

I wish I could tell you what Bill does when he dives to the bottom of the river. Bill's a person you wish was your best friend. That's a fact.

P.S. I'm not related to the author and I don't benefit from this review. I'm an author myself and just want to tell you that you'll enjoy Bill's exploits.

The Bill Travis Omnibus edition by George Wier Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This package of the Bill Travis books starts out with the first book boarding on the ridiculously impossible, the second being just impossible. Three was amusing but four became more possible. That being said if you can get to 3 & 4 it is worth the time to read
This is a good read from George Wier. Fast paced is an understatement. Lots of twists and turns in the plot. Bill's adopted daughter plays a big roll in this book which adds a lot of excitement. I can't wait to start the next book in the series and am glad I have purchased both Omnibus compilations.
With that said, there are continuity issues. I am currently reading the second omnibus, and while in the last story in the first omnibus his children's names were Jessica, Jennifer and Megan - in the first story of the second omnibus, Jennifer is once referred to as Michelle, and the second baby is then named Michelle. The other issue I have, and this is small but irritating, is that the author uses "further" instead of "farther" for distance.

The characters are good - I would like to hear a little more from Julie though - seems she's been relegated to "barefoot and pregnant".
I met the author back when we were both young and haven't seen him in years. We recently "met" again on-line and he told me he was an author. I had read some of his short stories back in the day and decided give his work a try. I really enjoy these books. Bill Travis is a great character!
I swear I know Bill Travis -- I mean a real life Bill Travis. Perhaps that is why I enjoy the series so much. Maybe some of the character's adventures are a bit James Bond-ish but, hey, I like spectacular events when I'm reading. The descriptions are so vivid ... I can feel the engulfing cold water, the wind buffeting my body, the sensation of free falling. Once I begin a George Wier novel, I cannot stop.

Thank you George for the enjoyable reads!
I really enjoy the history of Bill Travis and especially like that, just as the characters in our lives change, once they are there, they stick around. George makes the reader feel like part of the family. The only thing holding me back from a 5 star rating is the language. Take maybe 20 individual words out of these 4 books and I'd recommend it for teens on up.
As it stands now, I can't personally recommend it to anyone.
I had purchased 1 & 2 in this series the decided to get the omnibus as a little cheaper than 3&4 separately. The third in the series "Longnecks and Twisted Hearts" has been the least favorite of the series but was still more than worth the read. "The Devil to Pay" more than made up for anything I felt was missing in Longnecks. The time spent developing Bill's relationship with his adopted daughter was time well spent. And am hoping for more time with them and his wife in upcoming adventures.
The storyline including his temporary and uncomfortable membership in the Texas Rangers was a nice detail.
